GOD IS CLOSE TO THE BROKENHEARTED

Have you ever had your heart broken? Most of us have at one time or other. Either from a heavy loss, broken promise or deep disappointment.

At some point a loved one will let us down, or that perfect job will be given to someone else.

Even worse, when your life is going the way you planned it. All of a sudden your savings are drained from hospital bills. You lose the mortgage on your dream home and have to downsize. Maybe the Prince Charming you married has turned into a lazy bum.

No one can tell you which storm will rip through your family, out of your control leaving you helpless, hopeless and weary.

In fact, isn’t it usually the ones we least expect?

When faced with the worst case scenario what do you do?

Personally, I like to open up a bag of chocolates and settle in for a romantic comedy. It’s a good start to comfort myself until the movies get formulaic and the pounds begin to add up.

Reading about how other people get over heartache helps. Or, listening to a podcast about positive thoughts. Then there’s throwing yourself into your work so you don’t have to think about it. Been there.

As a last resort you could also raise your fists and shake them while looking up at the sky. “Why God?” If you do be ready for your neighbors to cross the street next time they see you.

It all adds up to a quick fix. Like a bandaid on a bleeding wound. At some point you need to cleanse the area, endure the sting of antiseptic get the sutures in or whatever you need to bind up that hurt.

For me, It’s like emotional root canal.

When you choose to live for Jesus it’s a different choice. You do get hit with things that are ridiculous to other people and they find it amazing the things people say to you and do to you that are unthinkable .

You know who you are. You’re that person that is motivated by love and when you sacrifice for someone that person turns around and betrays you.

Living in this world isn’t and it wasn’t meant to be easy. Have you read the bible and seen what Christ endured? All the nasty stuff he lived through before the cross only to endure the cross.

Yet, he had joy in his suffering. He was happy to suffer for our sake.

So, how did I get over the last time my heart was shattered? I took it to him. He’s been through it and he created us so he knows what it takes to put back the pieces of our hearts.  I read how Jesus walked on this earth and the ways he responded to his problems. It helps to know we’re not alone.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

It didn’t happen over night. Each time I chose to forgive God delivered me. As you know it isn’t easy letting go. It’s a continual process of transforming from hurt, anger and fear to freedom. Peace and joy replace the bitterness..

He’s our Creator God. If he designed you (look again at the beautiful words in Psalm 139), who better to put you back together in a way that it’s as if the breaking had never been done.

Finally, there is the thrill of seeing him take what was meant for evil and using if for good. So keep your chin up my friend. Good things are ahead. You need only to be still.  And, it doesn’t matter what they say about you. Only that you please the Master.

He loves you.

How has God healed your heart?
